Being busy the whole week at work, one always wants to relax and have some quality time with others either that is family or friends. Travelling a different place is one of the best option for such kind of freshness. There might be a long or short journey that depends on the destination we choose. Since we need to get back at work again once weekday starts it’s not possible to choose destinations that are at long distance.But if you are from Kathmandu or you are currently living in Kathmandu then you might know it’s not difficult to choose a beautiful site for weekend jamming with friends or peaceful time with family .

There are many such places near Kathmandu where we can visit and return at the same day. Let’s see what are the best options for our weekend plans :


Indeed one of the beautiful destinations to the south west of Kathmandu Valley. We just a few hours drive to reach the Chitlang village which has mesmerizing scenic beauty of nature. Markhu, Kulekhani and Chitlang are neighbour places where we can visit on a single day. Several activities can be done to enjoy our moments like bird watching tour, Boating at Kulekhhani, Jungle Walk and Hiking, Campfire etc. We can get the resort over there for all arrangements. We can have a good weekend there.

Chandragiri Hills

Chandragiri hills, Famous for the point from where we can enjoy the outstanding view of the mountain range as well as whole Kathmandu city. The first thing we can notice there is a change in weather vibe. We can enjoy everything about that hilltop location. Talking about religious importance temple of “Bhaleshwor Mahadev” is located there. Horse riding is one service people provide there. During winter, snow-covered hills look like a fairy world. Basantapur Durbar Square

A common junction for all is Basantapur. Tagged as “Heart of Kathmandu City” it is all time favourite place to chill out with friends. Filled with many temples and ancient durbar it is also a tourist-attracting point. Kathmandu Durbar Square, Kumari Ghar, Hanuman Dhoka, Bhairav Moorti are some of the speciality about Basantapur. This area has many famous restaurants and meets up junctions to enjoy our good Friday.

Boudhanath Stupa

In between those busy cities, Boudhanath stupa is a kind of peaceful place. It’s about 11km far from the centre of Kathmandu and can be visited in a single day. This area has a lot of religious importance for Buddhist religion and top listed point for Tourists as well. The speciality of this place are those massive stupas and so finely crafted Gumbas around it. People also enjoy the taste of Tibetian foods served in those areas.


Another one-day visit sites lists Swoyambunath as a favourite one of tourists. Known as Monkey Temple, this place offers scenic beauty of Kathmandu valley from that hilltop. Likewise, gold plated Vajra ‘thunderbolt’ set, Sleeping Buddha, a temple dedicated to Harati are the major attractions of this place. One would not want to miss capturing those rich art and crafts of these stupas.

Patan Durbar Square

Lalitpur and Kathmandu are close neighbour districts and Patan Durbar square is situated at Lalitpur. Rich with arts, many temples, Malla dynasty royal palaces, one could get a glimpse of beautiful Newari culture over there. Krishna Mandir, Taleju Bhawani, Bhimsen Temple are some of the structures around this area. UNESCO world heritage sites have a distinct place for Patan Durbar Square as well. If you are a foodie then enjoying Matka kulfi in Patan is the best option for you. Similarly, some restaurants serve unique food like cone pizza over there as well. Whether its religious view, Tourism view or normal day food hunting, Patan is an admirable place.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square

Among the largest kingdoms of Bagmati zone, Bhaktapur is one. Bhaktapur Durbar Square has the same kind of specialities as Patan and located just 13km away from Kathmandu. The rich culture, temples, and wood, metal and stone artworks are the uniqueness of this place. Bhaktapur is also popular for “Juju Dhau” (yoghurt). No can find the same taste of this Dahi at any other place. Therefore we might observe many peer groups enjoying at local Gallis of Durbar square.
