DRIVE TO DHUNCHE BAZAAR (Elev. 2,030 m/6,660 ft)
The first day is around a seven hour drive by bus to reach the district city of Dhunche Bazar. The center of Rasuwa District, here you see some fabulous cultural sites along the way. We are leaving the Kathmandu Valley behind as we cross the Valley Ridge and enter into new territory. This is much more remote country with farms and forests. We will spend the night at a local hotel.
TREK TO CHANDANBARI (Elev. 3,250 m/10,663 ft) The morning sun now reveals the beauty of the Langtang Range north of us as begin our trek. We enjoy a good, local breakfast as we begin walking northward from Dhunche Bazar. There are forests of pine and rhododendron. Keep watch and you’ll see deer and pheasants along with a variety of birds. Deeper in the jungle are the Himalayan Black Bear and the red pandas. You probably won’t see them, but keep a watch and you might get lucky. We are walking toward the little village of Chandanbari where we will spend the night. It’s a lot of climbing today and we’ll be more than ready for a good night’s sleep. Trekking time is around five hours.
TREK TO GOSAINKUNDA (Elev. 4,380 m/14,370 ft) We are climbing above the tree line as we make our way to the sacred lakes of Gosainkunda. This is where Lord Shiva put down his trisul and created these beautiful lakes. Our destination is the largest of these lakes where there is a major festival every August. This area is home to the Tamang mountain people. Explore around the lake as we see LirungHimal’s snowcapped peak before us. On the way we get to explore some quaint little villages like Lauribinayak with its stone homes and terraced farms. Everywhere we look today will be great scenic beauty. Trekking time is around 5 hours.
TREK BACK TO DHUNCHE BAZAAR (Elev. 2,030 m/6,660 ft) We drop quickly in elevation as we make our way to Dhunche Bazar. We leave the open vistas behind as we dip below the tree line and pass through the thick jungles. We return to our hotel and turn in for the night after around a 7 hour downhill trek.
RETURN TO KATHMANDU
After breakfast we board local bus and begin to head back to Kathmandu. The bus/Car ride is nice after three days of trekking. We watch the little villages pass by as we move toward the capital city. The local people are friendly on the bus. They are curious because they don’t get to see many visitors in this part of Nepal. It’s amazing just how much there is to do around Kathmandu and the surrounding Valley. As you return, you will no doubt with you could see some other amazing places in Nepal. The people at Himalayan Advisor will be happy to show you some more interesting places to see and visit in not only around the Kathmandu Valley, but throughout all of Nepal.
